James Anthony Kenyon, MM 3/C, CVE 106


He was born February 10, 1926 and died April 20, 2013 at the age of 87. He married his wife of 50 years, Sharon (Carstens/Trautman) Kenyon, October 18, 1962.  They resided in Lewiston, Idaho for many years.


Jim graduated from Lewiston High School in 1944. He also attended Lewis-Clark Normal School. After his service in the Navy, Jim ran his own business, Kenyon's Auto Sales and Rentals. He rented cars to the U.S. Postal Service, where he also served as a postman for several years.

 

He retired from the Camas Prairie Railroad in 1984.


He was a local history buff as it related to the Nez Perce. He admired and collected Nez Perce artifacts, including tools, arrowheads and beads.


Jim is survived by his wife, Sharon; his seven children: Brenda (Monty) Spears, Craig (Lillian) Trautman, Rita (Steve) Repp, Lori (Brian) Beaudoin, Brian (Debbie) Kenyon, Kathy (Tim) Pearson and Paul (Helen) Kenyon. He is also survived by his sister, Josephine Taylor of Portland, Ore.; 17 grandchildren; and his father-in-law, Ted (Sherry) Folk. Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Kenyon; and his grandson, Kenyon Pearson.

Herbert A. Potter, MM 3/C, CVE 21

Amos Bourgo, USS Eugene Elmore


He was 88 years old at the time of his passing in Yakima, WA.  He was born on the family farm in Washburn Wisconsin.  After leaving the Navy in 1946, Amos moved to Portland, Oregon where began his collegiate studies at Oregon State University and on December 13, 1946, married Laura Marie Bram.  In 1956, Amos was offered a position with the Ortho Division of Standard Oil of California and the family moved to the Yakima Valley.  After retiring from Ortho in 1984, Amos joined the Peace Corps and was assigned to teach agricultural subjects in Tanzania.


Amos is survived by his four children, Joanne Waller and husband Jim of Yakima, Dianna Melcher and husband Mark Higgs, (Sun Lakes, AZ), Kathy Taylor, (Arlington, WA.) and Donald (Sequim, WA). James Lloyd Lewey, SF, CVE 21/106


James died at the age of 88 on July 17, 2012.  He was a lifelong resident of Tuscumbia, AL. James was retired from Reynolds Metal Company. He was a member of Tuscumbia Church of Christ, the Masonic Washington Lodge #36, Veteran of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Gladys Enlow Lewey; brothers, Herbert, David, and Jerrell Lewey; and granddaughter, Kim Lewey. Survivors include his daughter, Mary Margaret Barker (Mike); sons, Marshall Lewey (Rosemary), Doug Lewey (Carol), and Jerry Lewey (Charlie); grandchildren, Jim Lewey (Lauren), Katy Beth Lewey, Christy Claunch (Michael), Amy Chambers (Tim), Clint Lewey (Esin), and Trent Walters; and great-grandchildren, William Lewey, Max Lewey, Pete Claunch, Chip Claunch, Lilly Chambers, and Bianca Lewey. Ted Hoots, GM 3/C, CVE 106

He died July 7, 2012 at the age of 86 following a battle with cancer.  Ted was the oldest of six siblings. He moved to Wilder, Idaho in 1926. He attended Wilder schools through the 8th grade. He then left school and started working to help his family. Ted enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944, served during WWII, and was discharged in 1946. He married Margie Reed on February 13th, 1948 in Winnemucca , Nevada. They were married for 64 years. He went to work on John Batt and Herschel Trunnell Farms until buying his first semi truck in 1954. He hauled the first Ore-Ida Foods potato products from the Ontario plant. In March 1957, Ted moved his family to Ontario, Oregon. In 1958 he went to work for Ore-Ida Trucking, which later became Northwest Agricultural Cooperative Association (N.A.C.A.). Ted worked his way up from mechanic to president. He was president of N.A.C.A. from 1972 until retiring in 1990.  Ted was a life member of the Elks Lodge #1690 in Ontario, Oregon.  Ted is survived by his wife Marge; three sons, Daniel (Pam), Kelly, and Stacy; his six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one brother Pete Hoots (Caldwell, Idaho),and one sister Betty Hoots (California). Charles E. Harrar, AB 3/C  CVE 106 Korea Era

He passed away Feb. 20, 2013 at age 86 after a long illness. Charles was in the Coast Guard during WWII and served in the Navy during the Korean War.  He worked for companies as a Production Supervisor and Production Control Manager. Charles was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Elks. He was a Mason and a Shriner. His favorite pastime was Genealogy, which he taught for many years.  Internment was in Pennsylvania.  Charles was survived by his wife of 56 years, Marieluise, daughter Michele Costantino, and son Karl Harrar. Donald Hugh Bracey, MM 2/C, CVE 106

He died November 19, 2012 at the age of 86.  His widow Jean informed the Association that Donald was in an auto accident in 2000 and has been in failing health since that time.   Other survivors include two daughters,  seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren. He retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company in 1983 after working in TN, FL and GA. He helped establish Holly Hill Church of Christ in Daytona Beach, FL. He served as a deacon there and at San Jose Church of Christ in Jacksonville, FL. He was a member of Decatur Church of Christ in Atlanta, GA from 1975-1984 and a member of Harpeth Hills Church of Christ since 1984. Jack A. Major, AMM 3/C, CVE 21/106

He passed away at his home on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at age 90. Jack was born in Elgin, Illinois and had lived in Haywood County for the past 25 years. He was the son of the late Harry and Amanda Teachout Major and was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Carol Neel, and two brothers. Jack was a member of the VFW, American Legion, International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Crabtree Iron Duff Volunteer Fire Department and a former member of the Crabtree Community Club. Jack was also a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Rita Major; three daughters, two sons, two stepdaughters, 16 grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Charles H. Kraus, Jr., JR., CPL, VMF 511, CVE 106

Charles of Dundee, NY, lost his battle to cancer on January 10, 2013.  He was 88 years old.  Charles was born in Buffalo, NY in 1924 and spent most of his life residing in Tyrone, NY.  Upon returning home from the war, Charles enjoyed his career at Mercury Aircraft until he retired. His career spanned over four decades and his success can be directly attributed to his work ethic and his natural mechanical abilities.  Charles touched many lives in his 88 years. In his spare time Charles enjoyed spending time with family and friends, home improvements, fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking, playing cards, traveling and spending the summers at his cottage on Lamoka Lake.  Charles was predeceased in 2001 by his lovely bride of 50 years , Dorsay Heverly Kraus.  Charles is survived by his loving children a son and daughter, 12 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
