Major Waldron Eugene Thomas (USMC), 106

He was a resident of San Jose, CA. “Tommy” was born and raised in Struthers, Ohio. He graduated from Struthers High School in June 1939 and, later that month enlisted in the United States Marine Corps (USMC). He served his country and the USMC for the next 27 years retiring as a Major. He was a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. After his discharge from the USMC in 1966, Tom went to work at FMC in San Jose as a Logistics Analyst in the design and manufacture of amphibious Troop Transports. After 19 years at FMC, he retired in 1986. He enjoyed the next 26 years of retirement in San Jose.  Tom married his high school sweetheart Annabelle Holley from Struthers, Ohio on May 13, 1944. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a sister. Another daughter preceded him in death.

Richard J. McDonald, ABM 2/C, 21/106

Died August 31 in South Bend, Indiana.  Richard was born in Winthrop, Mass., on July 7, 1925, the seventh child born to John J. MacDonald of Prince Edward Island, Canada, and Mary (Mackell) MacDonald of Croagh Patrick, Co Mayo, Ireland. After the war, he entered the University of Notre Dame and graduated in the class of 1951 and went on to earn a law degree in 1954. In March 1951, he married the former Elaine Edwards at Sacred Heart Church. Elaine passed away in 2005. After law school, he went to work at Bendix, Raytheon, Montgomery and Kopec law firm, Patrick, Anderson and McDonald law firm, and then going on his own over the last 30 years. He is survived by four sons and two daughters, and one granddaughter.

Harry McKay, AMMI 3/c, CVE 21/106


He passed away at age 88. In his 27 years in the US Navy he rose from Seaman to Lt. After the Navy, Harry earned a BA in Education and a MA in Education.  He is survived by his wife of 66 years Blanche, four children, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Harry and his wife worshipped with the Lakeshore Church of Christ.  Harry was a member of Fleet Reserve Branch 126, the American Legion, the VFW, the Block Island Association, and the Sons of the American Revolution.

Robert Taylor, Jr., AMMH 2/c, CVE 21/106

He died on February 16, 2012 in Cincinnati, OH. After many years with Cincinnati Milacron he retired in 1982. He was an avid boater and also was active in the Cincinnati Divison of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. He is survived by his wife, Verna, five children, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Loren “Doc” Hewett, SSgt, USMC, VMF 511, CVE 106

He passed away on February 8, 2012 in Pacific, MO. After serving in the US Marine Corp he was a captain in the University City Fire Department and a bailiff in the Clayton County Court House. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, two children, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
